Here is a list of this weekend’s latest movies to hit the theatre:
1. Balls of Fury: A comedy starring Dan Fogler, Christopher Walken, and Maggie Q is about martial arts, ping-pong and the F.B.I. and really isn’t all that funny, though it tries to be. Go figure.
2. Death Sentence: A fantasy starring Kevin Bacon, Kelly Preston, and John Goodman is about revenge. You hurt my kid, now I have to hurt you, and of course you are going to retaliate. So now, we all are fighting and no one really wins and we all end up either badly hurt or dead. This movie goes nowhere real fast. A gang initiation gone wrong and now someone has to pay the price.
3. Halloween: A horror flick starring Scout Taylor-Compton, Malcolm McDowell, and Brad Dourif and when you see it, you too will realize that its not the type of horror film that most of us are used to seeing. We want to be shaking in our boots and well, this movie, just doesn’t do it. Its kind of like the girl or guy that flirts with you all the time in private, but then in public places acts as though you don’t exist. And you know how we all love people like that!! So I say, save you $8.50 and instead head over to Blockbuster and rent Hostel for just $3.99…. and with the change you have left over, you’ll be able to stop by Wendy’s on the way home and pick up a few items from their 99 cent menu for dinner.
4. My Best Friend: A comedy starring Daniel Autiel, Dany Boon, Julie Gayet is a movie about relationships, but more specifically friendships. We all claim to have lots of friends, well, some of us do. But in this movies, when the rubber meets the road and an antiques dealer, played by Daniel Autiel, has to come up with a friend that he can turn to, who he knows will not let him down, he is shocked. Shocked to realize that he really does not have one true friend that he can really count on.
5. La que roba a ladron: A long overdue Latin flick starring Fernando Colunga, Saul Lizaso, and Miguel Varoni is a Spanish movie with English subtitles. So if you like to read, this will probably be the movie for you. For me, I prefer a book if I am going to read. It promises laughter and is basically about a crook who goes after another crook who stole from people by deception.
